JAKARTA, Indonesia – A campaign team spokesman for the losing candidate in Indonesia's presidential election says they are preparing a legal challenge to be filed in the country's highest court.
Jakarta Gov. Joko Widodo was declared the winner after getting 53 percent of the popular vote in the July 9 election.
Former Gen. Prabowo Subianto withdrew shortly before the result was announced on Tuesday, alleging fraud in the vote.
Campaign spokesman Tantowi Yahya told foreign reporters Wednesday that Subianto is contesting the voting procedure and his lawyers are preparing to file paperwork with the Constitutional Court.
Such a move may prolong the political uncertainty in Indonesia's transition to democracy.
