A Western photojournalist says he and another European photographer were held captive for a week by Islamic militants in Syria before being rescued by Syrian rebels.

The prominent Dutch photographer (Jeroen Oerlemans) told Business News Radio of the Netherlands that he's not sure which group held him and the British man (John Cantile.) But he says he is sure they were not Syrian.

He spoke from Turkey, where they were resting after their ordeal. The Dutch photographer is recovering from two gunshot wounds that he suffered during an escape attempt.

The account would appear to add weight to reports that foreign Islamic fighters are going to Syria to support the rebel side.
