The European Union says it will not recognize a transitional council set up by the leaders of the military coup in Guinea-Bissau.
Foreign ministers said Monday they would "impose restrictive measures against individuals who continue to engage in or provide support for acts that threaten peace, security and stability in Guinea Bissau."
The small west African nation was just weeks away from holding a presidential runoff election when on April 12 soldiers attacked the home of the prime minister, who was the frontrunner. Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Jr. was arrested along with President Raimundo Pereira.
On Saturday, the U.N. Security Council demanded the immediate restoration of constitutional order and reinstatement of the legitimate government.
