Dutch authorities say they are loading wreckage recovered from the crash site of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in eastern Ukraine onto trucks and transporting it to the Netherlands for investigation.
Flight 17 was shot down over territory held by pro-Russia rebels in July, killing all 298 people aboard — mostly Dutch citizens. The wreckage has only been collected in recent weeks, as fighting between government forces and rebels near the crash site previously made it too dangerous for recovery workers to approach.
In a statement Monday the Dutch Safety Board, which is leading an international investigation into the cause of the plane's destruction, said the wreckage will be investigated at the Gilze Rijen Air Base.
Dutch prosecutors are also gathering evidence for a separate criminal investigation into the plane's downing.
