A member of the support committee for a dissident Moroccan journalist says he has been persuaded to end his month-long hunger strike in protest of the government and has been admitted to a hospital in Geneva.
Ali Mrabet began a hunger strike outside the U.N. headquarters on June 24 after what he said was the government's refusal to issue him the paperwork necessary to renew his ID and passport, preventing him from working.
Interior Minister Mohammed Hassad said Monday that Mrabet could get a new passport in three days.
Committee member Omar Brouksy said Tuesday that Mrabet was then persuaded to end his hunger strike.
Mrabet was banned from journalism for 10 years. The ban was lifted in April.
