The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has abruptly dismissed a high-profile, popular news anchor over allegations that he used his journalistic contacts to broker art deals and collect lucrative fees.
Evan Solomon was dismissed shortly after The Toronto Star reported he allegedly had "secretly been brokering lucrative art deals" with people he has dealt with through his job, Canada's public broadcaster said in a brief memo issued Tuesday.
The well-known Canadian journalist was the host of the "Power and Politics" show on CBC television and host of "The House" on CBC radio.
Solomon has denied any wrongdoing and has turned to his union, the Canadian Media Guild, to examine his options.
