Witnesses say a bomb blamed on Boko Haram Islamic extremists killed at least 24 people and wounded 60 at a village market in northeastern Nigeria.
Tuesday's bombing is the latest in a string of bombings and village raids that have killed hundreds in the space of weeks, as officials promise the deployment of a regional army to halt a Nigerian-born Islamic uprising that has killed some 20,000 in six years and spilled across the West African nation's borders.
A spokesman for a civilian self-defense group, Abbas Gava, said their volunteers collected 20 bodies and body parts from four others after the afternoon explosion in Sabon Gari village.
A nurse at Biu hospital 25 miles (40 kilometers) away said they received more than 20 burned bodies and are treating 41 survivors.
