A Kenyan police spokesman says two policemen are missing and three others wounded after suspected Islamic extremists attacked a police post in eastern Kenya.
George Kinoti said Thursday that more than 50 suspected members of Somalia's Islamic extremist group al-Shabab attacked the Hamey Police Camp, within Garissa County but the officers managed to repulse them. Kinoti said the attackers retreated and returned in a bigger number in a truck and fired three explosives into the camp, destroying some tents and forcing the officers to retreat.
Al-Shabab has carried out numerous attacks in Kenya since 2011 when Kenyan deployed to Somalia to fight militants. Al-Shabab, which is al-Qaida's affiliate in East Africa, has vowed retribution on Kenya for sending its troops into Somalia to fight the Islamic insurgents.
