Two former figures in Ireland's collapsed Anglo Irish Bank have been freed from prison after their fraud convictions were overturned on appeal.
The three-judge Court of Appeal ruled Tuesday that the July 2015 convictions of the bank's former chief operations officer, Tiarnan O'Mahoney, and company secretary Bernard Daly were faulty on several grounds.
They and a former assistant manager, Aoife Maguire, all had been found guilty of concealing customer accounts from tax investigators and remain the only officials to have been imprisoned from Anglo, whose 2009 nationalization amid several fraud scandals drove Ireland toward bankruptcy.
O'Mahoney had been serving a 3-year sentence, Daly two years. Maguire's 18-month sentence was overturned in December.
The judges say O'Mahoney could face a retrial but Daly has already served enough prison time.
