A Missouri woman who admitted scheming with her ex-husband to set a string of fires to bilk insurers is headed to federal prison for her role in a 2001 blaze that killed their 15-year-old son.
U.S. District Judge Audrey Fleissig sentenced 59-year-old Sandra Kay Bryant on Thursday to eight years. But Bryant was credited with the four years and two months she spent jailed on related state charges, meaning she'll serve a little less than half of the imposed prison term.
Fleissig last month sentenced Bryant's ex-husband, Steven Kemper, to five years and 10 months.
Authorities say Zachariah Kemper died in the family's suburban St. Louis home after becoming trapped in the basement he shared with Bryant while her mother, Kemper and his lover lived upstairs. The adults were unharmed.
