A West Virginia woman has been found guilty in the death of a Maryland man who was found naked at the bottom of a cliff with his throat slashed, despite her claims that he used her hand to cut himself.
Megan Shaffer's attorney Stephen R. Tully tells The Cumberland Times-News that they're considering an appeal after the 21-year-old was convicted of second-degree murder Monday in the January 2017 death of 25-year-old Alexander Stevens.
Shaffer had pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, as well as manslaughter and assisting to commit or attempt to commit suicide. Her attorneys argued that she was the victim of Stevens' physical and sexual abuse and that he used her hand to cut his own throat.
The prosecution says there was no evidence of abuse and that Shaffer's statements kept changing.
Her sentencing is pending.
