Chester's ban on golf carts cruising city streets remains a prickly issue for some.

The Weirton Daily Times reports that the city's golf cart lobby appealed anew this week to the City Council to reconsider the ban, enacted on Oct. 1.

Councilman John Woodruff defended the ban, saying city streets are not safe for golf carts. He cited statistics that he said prove his point.

But Vince LaNeve said the ban has been a hardship on his 18-year-old son, Andrew, who has mobility issues. He said a golf cart is his son's only form of transportation around town.

The ordinance also bans all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and dirt bikes.
