A 46-year-old West Michigan woman suffered multiple head injuries and at times was rendered unconscious during an hour-long beating at the hands of her roommate.
Lori Ann Pietila of Holland was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, according to Holland Public Safety Capt. Jack Dykstra.
Pietila was being held on a $75,000 bond.
Officers were called to their home about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to check on a person who was involved in an ongoing dispute with others at the house.
Dykstra said officers knocked and it took the beating victim several minutes to answer the door.
"The victim had been assaulted over the period of approximately an hour and at various times was rendered unconscious," he said. "The suspect and victim lived in the home together and had a history of not getting along together."
Officers began treating the victim at the scene. She later was transported to Zeeland Community Hospital.
Police found Pietila at a nearby park where she was arrested.
Holland is about 26 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
