Police converged on a Utah high school Thursday and ordered a lockdown after a student reporting seeing someone with a weapon, but authorities later determined the statement was fabricated.
Alpine School District spokeswoman Kimberly Bird said police didn't find any weapons during a room-by-room search Pleasant Grove High School. No students were hurt.
Bird said the student lodged the report at about 2 p.m. shortly before students were going to be leaving. Police were immediately called in, and ordered the lockdown.
Classes were released one at a time around 4 p.m. after the search turned up no weapons.
KSL reported that Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Mike Roberts said the teen later admitted that the story was false. The student was arrested for allegedly making a false police report.
Pleasant Grove is a city of about 37,000 located some 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
