Turkish man pleads guilty in $55 million cyberattacks case

Prosecutors in New York say a Turkish man who had a leadership role in three cyberattacks that caused more than $55 million in losses has pleaded guilty.

Ercan Findikoglu entered the plea Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court. He pleaded guilty to computer intrusion conspiracy, access device fraud conspiracy and effecting transactions with unauthorized access devices. He could face up to 57 1/2 years in prison when he's sentenced.

He was arrested at a German airport in 2013. He fought extradition for more than 18 months before being sent to the United States last year.

Prosecutors say he hacked into computer systems of three payment processing companies. They say he accessed prepaid debit card accounts, inflated balances and removed their withdrawal limits between 2011 and 2013.

His lawyer hasn't commented.
