TSA agent accused of smuggling drugs at California airport

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

A security officer at Oakland International Airport in California is accused of using her job to help smuggle drugs through the airport.

Federal prosecutors say 28-year-old Kiana Scott Clark manipulated an X-ray machine at a security checkpoint so her co-conspirators could pass through with carry-on bags full of marijuana.

According to an indictment unsealed Thursday, the operation went on from September 2013 until this October and successfully moved 220 pounds or more of marijuana.

Clark is charged with conspiring to defraud the United States and conspiring to distribute controlled substances.

She made her initial court appearance Thursday with attorney Hanni Fakhoury, but did not enter a plea. Fakhoury said she was appointed a new attorney, but he did not know the attorney's name.

An email to a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office was not immediately returned.
