Officials in Maryland say they have received numerous reports of tremors in the resort town of Ocean City, but a federal agency does not show there was an earthquake. There have been no reports of damage.

The reports of the tremors started coming to Ocean City officials and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency about noon Thursday.

Ocean City officials posted on the town's Facebook page that residents also reported hearing a loud boom.

Bob Conkwright, a geologist with the Maryland Geological Survey, says the agency's seismograph near Reisterstown in central Maryland did pick up a signal just before noon Thursday. But he says it was not clear what caused it.

The U.S. Geological Survey shows no report of an earthquake on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
