A spokeswoman for the Waffle House chain says restaurant officials are thankful no one was hurt when customers thwarted a would-be robber at a location in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Spokeswoman Kelly Thrasher-Bruner says officials are especially thankful no customers who helped stop the robbery early Saturday were injured.
Local media outlets report that police say a man pointed what was described as an AK-47-style rifle at employees and demanded money early Saturday morning.
Police say a patron confronted the man, and a struggle began. Several patrons chased the man from the restaurant. The police say in a news release the man was last seen jumping a nearby fence.
Thrasher-Bruner says Waffle House officials are working with authorities to apprehend the suspect. She says no one at the Fayetteville restaurant is available for comment.

That's the message a would-be robber got when he tried to steal money from the 24-hour restaurant in North Carolina early Saturday morning.

The Waffle House manager said Monday that employees aren't allowed to talk with reporters and referred questions to company headquarters in Norcross, Georgia. Voice and email messages left with a spokeswoman by The Associated Press were not immediately returned.
