The latest on wildfires raging in California (all times local):
7:55 a.m.
Two massive wildfires in Northern California are mostly under control but have burned thousands of buildings.
Officials said Tuesday that the blazes have combined to destroy 2,800 homes and other structures. The flames also have killed five people.
One blaze, 90 miles north of San Francisco, is three-quarters contained, but more than 3,000 buildings are still at risk. The other fire, 125 miles east of San Francisco, is 80 percent contained and also continues to threaten thousands of homes.
California Gov. Jerry Brown says he has requested a presidential disaster declaration, which would provide funds to support fire victims and to supplement state and local recovery efforts.
