A woman has pleaded guilty in Tennessee to second-degree murder in the death of her 12-year-old daughter, who died at home from gangrene and infected bedsores.
The Shelby County district attorney's office says 37-year-old Raven Ruth also pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated child abuse. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole.
Her daughter Andrea Ruth suffered from asthma, high blood pressure and obesity, weighing more than 250 pounds at one point. Stuck in bed, unable to walk, she developed gangrene so advanced that the bones in her feet were visible and first responders saw maggots beneath dirty bandages. She died in November 2012.
Her father, Errol Johnson, was convicted of criminally negligent homicide and sentenced in February to 22 years in prison.
