NEW YORK – Authorities say five middle school students are in stable condition after an SUV jumped a curb and struck them near their Queens school.
The crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday about a block from Intermediate School 73-Q in Maspeth.
CBS New York (http://cbsloc.al/15U1qlU ) says a parent was dropping off his child when he apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.
It says a group of men lifted the vehicle while freeing two of the students.
A rescuer, Lynx Garcia, says one girl had a twisted leg and a gash on her thigh.
All five students were taken to Elmhurst Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Department of Education says one of the students is 12 years old and the others are 13.
