Southern Oregon man arrested in explosion at district attorney's office

Authorities have arrested a 46-year-old Southern Oregon man and accused him of trying to blow up the county prosecutor's office.

They said the man had been facing criminal charges before the blast last week that caused only minor damage when a propane tank failed to explode.

Medford Police Chief Tim George said Alan Leroy McVay of Jackson County was arrested Wednesday evening without incident in nearby White City.

McVay was held on $1 million bail for arraignment Thursday on charges including arson and building a destructive device.

The Medford Mail Tribune reported (http://bit.ly/1ekvbg2 ) that McVay has a record in Jackson County for drug, burglary and theft convictions and was indicted in 2012 on a burglary charge resulting from the theft of 30 firearms and ammunition from a Medford home.
