HILLSDALE, N.Y. -- Police confirm one person was killed when a small plane crashed and burned in a wooded area near the Massachusetts border.
Columbia County Sheriff's deputies say a hunter called police about 11 a.m. Friday to report a plane down, though crews did not make it to the remote site until the afternoon.
Deputies say the crash started a fire at the site about 100 miles north of New York City. The fire had burned itself out by the time crews arrived.
It was not known when the plane crashed and the victim was not identified.
Investigators are contacting area airports and the probe is continuing. A spokesman for nearby.
