A hiker walking on a trail near the University of Delaware on Friday discovered the skeletal remains of a retired professor missing since 2012, Delaware authorities said.
John Dohms, a retired UD professor, had been missing since September 2012, Fox affiliate WTXF reported.
The remains were found at around 4:30 p.m. Friday when the hiker, who was searching off trail for antlers shed by deer, saw bones in a heavily wooded area. The hiker, who has not been identified, contacted police, who then conducted a search of the area.
The cause of death for Dohms, who suffered from dementia, remains under investigation. The remains were identified through dental records.
