EL CAJON , Calif. – Two days after being shot in the head, a police officer is sitting, talking and recalling details about a gunman shooting him after the suspect went on a rampage — killing a baby girl believed to be his daughter, his mother-in-law and torching his home.
Lt. Mark Coit says 28-year-old Officer Jarred Slocum remembers being shot by Kevin Collier as he approached his home Sunday after a hysterical call reported Collier had ignited a home.
Police believe a 1-year-old girl found shot in the head in Collier's truck was his daughter. Two other adult bodies found inside the home are believed to be 32-year-old Collier and his 51-year-old mother-in-law.
Coit says Slocum may leave intensive care Tuesday.
Collier's wife escaped uninjured. She had recently filed for divorce.
