The man who pretended to be an heir to the Rockefeller fortune is facing sentencing for the cold case murder of a Southern California man.
Christian Gerhartsreiter (GAYR'-hahrtz-ry-tur) is due to be sentenced Thursday in the death of a man whose bones were found buried at a suburban San Marino home.
However, he has made it evident he will not go gently when he is sentenced for 27 years to life in prison.
After firing his lawyers, Gerhartsreiter failed to file required paperwork asking for a new trial. He told the Pasadena Star-News that he will seek to submit a motion of many thousands of words and wants to read it in open court.
It was uncertain if sentencing would proceed. The judge in his case said he wants to go forward, but would also consider any new evidence.
