Rapper Ja Rule due to go to prison in NYC gun case

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Rapper Ja Rule is set to go to prison almost four years after he was charged with having a loaded gun in his luxury sports car as he left a New York City concert.

The platinum-selling rapper-actor is to be sentenced Wednesday to two years behind bars. He pleaded guilty in December to attempted criminal weapon possession.

He said on "Good Day New York" Monday that "laws are laws," and he's been trying to prepare himself mentally for prison. The show airs on New York's Fox 5 TV station.

Ja Rule was nominated for a 2002 best rap album Grammy Award for "Pain is Love." His movie credits include 2001's "The Fast and the Furious" and 2003's "Scary Movie 3."
