PALMETTO, Fla. – An SUV crossed a highway median and slammed into a home, killing a man and a woman who was nine months pregnant as they slept early Wednesday, according to police.
The SUV lost control on a highway and crashed through the fence at the Lone Oak Mobile Home Park in Palmetto, south of St. Petersburg, police told The Bradenton Herald (http://bit.ly/19F3aCh).
The couple were killed on impact, and the fetus also did not survive, officials said.
The 35-year-old driver was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims or the driver.
Neighbor Luis Urbina said the crash woke him up.
"It was like a big boom," he said. "I thought it was the tree that fell."
He said he could hear family members screaming and he went over to help.
