Authorities say Leesburg police officers fatally shot a "vicious" dog that was preventing them from entering a home where a woman needed medical attention.
Leesburg police Lt. Joe Iozzi says the woman died Thursday night. The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/21Wwb0i ) reports the woman's family called paramedics about 6 p.m. saying she needed medical attention. When they arrived, they found a large dog covered in blood barking and blocking their entrance.
Paramedics called police. Officers then shot the dog.
Police are waiting for an autopsy to determine what caused the woman to die. They say the dog belonged to the woman.
Iozzi says officers are trained to use discretion when they find a large dog growling and covered in blood blocking a door.
