Police: Man charged with firing at occupied vehicles

Published March 04, 2016

Associated Press

Authorities say they've arrested a man suspected of firing at cars, prompting the evacuation of homes in one northern Virginia neighborhood.

Manassas officials say in a news release that 23-year-old Manuel Gonzalez was arrested Thursday night in Woodbridge, about 15 miles away, and charged with shooting at an occupied vehicle and weapons offenses.

Officials say police officers responded to reports of shots fired Thursday afternoon and found damaged vehicles, but no one injured. Police say two men were seen running into a townhouse and received a tip that they had high-powered automatic weapons and possibly explosives.

Chief Doug Keen told the Washington Post (http://wapo.st/21I5JNe ) no one was in the home, but investigators found weapons.

City spokeswoman Patty Prince said by phone Friday that police are trying to determine whether a second person was involved.
