An indictment says the pilot of a powerboat was drunk when he crashed into a construction barge in New York's Hudson River, killing a bride-to-be and her fiance's best man.
The Rockland County district attorney's office said Thursday that a grand jury indicted Jojo John, of Nyack, on charges including vehicular manslaughter and operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol. It says John's blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.
A lawyer for John said poor lighting on the barge, not any impairment, caused the crash.
Police said after the crash they suspected John was intoxicated. The grand jury saw lab results from blood tests.
The July 26 crash near the Tappan (TAP'-uhn) Zee Bridge caused the deaths of Lindsey Stewart and Mark Lennon. They both drowned.
