An FBI agent shot and wounded someone Tuesday morning aboard a Washington, D.C., Metro Red Line subway train in Maryland, officials said
Transit authority and FBI officials said the shooting happened inside a train car just before 7 a.m. near the Medical Center station in Bethesda.

The person who was shot was taken to the hospital for treatment, the FBI said. It was unclear exactly what prompted the agent to open fire and the victim's condition was not immediately specified.
In a statement, the FBI said it “takes all shooting incidents involving our agents seriously” and that an internal investigation has been launched, in line with standard bureau policy.
“The review process is thorough and objective and is conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances,” the FBI said.

The Metro Transit Police Department and the FBI are investigating the shooting. Additional details were not immediately available.
Transit service was temporarily snarled as officials responded to the scene, but was later resumed. Medical Center station provides service to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and National Institutes of Health.
