Lawyers for Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke are seeking the juvenile records of the teenager he is accused of unjustly shooting to death.
The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/29A2vqX ) Wednesday that the lawyers for Van Dyke declined to comment about their reasons for seeking Laquan McDonald's juvenile records. They point to a gag order imposed by a judge preventing them from discussing the case publicly.
Van Dyke is charged with first-degree murder in the death of the 17-year-old McDonald, who was shot 16 times in October 2014. Video of the shooting sparked protests when it was released last year.
The Tribune reports that in the request filed last month, the attorneys said only that their inspection of the files was necessary as they prepared to defend Van Dyke.
