An 85-year-old resident who faced eviction from her apartment in Manhattan's Little Italy has until June 30 to leave under an agreement reached with her landlord — the Italian American Museum.
Adele Sarno has lived in the same 2-bedroom apartment over the museum for over 50 years.
The Italian-American grandmother went to Housing Court last month to try to stop the eviction after losing a five-year fight to stay in the $820-a-month apartment.
Her plight drew protests from housing advocates.
Sarno told The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1IixSPi ) that the agreement was reached Monday. It gives her time to find a smaller place in Little Italy.
The museum has said it was looking to expand its space. It declined to comment on the settlement.
