A man accused of gunning down his family in California two decades ago had pleaded not guilty to homicide after being extradited from Mexico.
Authorities charged 60-year-old Ramon Esparza Rios with the murders of his wife, 23-year-old nephew and 12-year-old son in the family's mobile home near King City in 1990.
Sheriff's officials say they believe the shooting stemmed from a family dispute that also involved heavy drinking. Five other children in the home were not injured.
Rios entered his plea Tuesday after being returned to Monterey County from Mexico, where authorities say he'd been living under an alias since 1990.
The U.S. Border Patrol contacted prosecutors in June to say Mexican authorities had a suspect in custody they believed was wanted on a triple homicide.
