New York teen survives 50-foot plunge upstate waterfall

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Authorities say 13-year-old boy is in a Westchester hospital after he fell 50 feet off a waterfall in the Hudson Valley.

Woodbury police tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that they received a 911 call around 8 p.m. Thursday reporting that a boy had fallen off a cliff in the Orange County town of Cornwall, 50 miles north of New York City.

Officers who rushed to the scene learned that the teen was with a group when he slipped on wet moss at the top of cliff and tumbled down rocks to the bottom. Police and firefighters used an all-terrain tractor to take the boy out of the woods to a waiting helicopter, which flew him to Westchester Medical Center.

His condition wasn't available Friday morning.
