A New York man has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for beating his mother and stepfather to death with a rock the size of a bowling bowl.
Twenty-three-year-old Anthony Repp was sentenced Thursday in a Rensselaer County court. He pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder in a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Authorities say Repp used a huge rock to kill 62-year-old Michael Matala in his Schaghticoke (SKAT'-ih-kohk) home on July 4, 2013. Prosecutors say he then told 58-year-old Cynthia Matala "Bye-bye forever, mom" as he chased her around the house before killing her.
Repp jumped a train and was captured in western Massachusetts a day later.
Repp's attorney says he suffered from a mental illness, but two psychologists found him competent to stand trial.
