NEWARK, NJ – A man on trial for the murder of a New Jersey teenager nearly a quarter-century ago has pleaded guilty to the crime.
The Middlesex County prosecutor's office announced Friday that Steven Parkey Jr., admitted to killing Nikki Adams of New Brunswick on October 3, 1990.
The 15-year-old Adams was discovered dead from multiple stab wounds in an Edison motel room.
Parkey pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated manslaughter. He was arrested in 2010 after DNA tests linked him to the crime scene.
Detectives worked for years to solve the case.
The 43 year-old Parkey, who lived in Highland Park at the time of the crime, will be sentenced to 25 years under the terms of the plea agreement.
A jury had begun deliberations when Parkey decided to plead guilty.
