Prosecutors have charged a 34-year-old man with murdering a 9-year-old boy and wounding his mother and another woman while apparently shooting randomly at passing cars in the St. Paul, Minn., suburb where he lives.
Nhan Lap Tran (nahn lap tran) was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder and other counts in Monday's shootings in Oakdale.
Witnesses told police they saw Tran shooting at cars, apparently at random.
Fourth-grader Devin Aryal was shot in the head and died. His mother and a woman in another car were wounded.
A judge ordered Tran to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Tran's public defender declined to comment.
Police say Tran had a 9mm handgun and several rounds of ammunition when they arrested him Monday.
