A 15-year-old Michigan boy who last year walked 40 miles carrying his brother on his back to raise awareness about cerebral palsy is nearing the end of the first day of a longer, second endeavor.
Hunter Gandee on Friday began an approximately 57-mile weekend trek with brother Braden in a harness on his back.
Hunter was 14 last June when he carried then-7-year-old Braden for two days. Cerebral palsy prevents Braden from walking without assistance. They traveled last year from their hometown of Temperance to Ann Arbor.
They started Friday in Lambertville and plan to spend the night at a Dundee campground.
The walk ends Sunday in Ann Arbor. The family says it is an awareness project, not a fundraiser.
