Man whose underwear gun killed friend is sentenced to jail

Published May 11, 2016

Associated Press

A Pittsburgh man who said he was adjusting a gun he kept in his underwear when it fired and killed one of his friends has been sentenced to jail.

Twenty-year-old Eietyoung (EET'-yung) Kemp pleaded guilty in Allegheny County to involuntary manslaughter, carrying a firearm without a license, reckless endangerment and evidence tampering. He was sentenced Wednesday to 11 1/2 to 23 months behind bars.

Police say Kemp told them he was riding in a car to a party with friends in August and was adjusting the gun in the backseat when it discharged. They say a bullet went through the front seat and killed 19-year-old Robert Alston.

Police say Kemp told them he panicked, ran away and threw the gun in the Allegheny River but later surrendered.
