Sometimes being a good Samaritan can get you into trouble.
An Illinois man has been ordered to pay a $500 fine for turning in a Chase Bank bag he found containing $17,000 cash -- because he falsely reporting to police where he found the bag.
Robert Adams, 54, of Arlington Heights, told Rolling Meadows police that he found the bag at a local newspaper stand, the Chicago Tribune reports. But after reviewing surveillance footage, police said he picked up the bag near an ATM in Midlothian.
Adams said he made up the story because he felt more comfortable handing the cash over to Rolling Meadows police rather than the local authorities.
