A man who Fairbanks, Alaska, police say launched his sports car into a three-quarter-ton pickup in a fit of road rage has been charged with felony criminal mischief.

Police say 28-year-old Luis Mesias Jara intentionally backed his Porsche Boxster into the driver's side door of a Ford F-250, causing $5,000 damage.

Police call it road rage. Jara's attorney says they are mistaken. He calls the damage an innocent accident.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://bit.ly/1riUV53) reports the pickup driver told police Jara cut in front of him Monday and slammed on the brakes. Police say both vehicles stopped but Jara then accelerated hard enough to leave burn marks and rammed the truck.

Prosecutors say Jara told police the other driver kept him from changing lanes and blew black smoke in his direction.

He's free on $6,000 bail.
