Man pleads guilty to shooting that injured 7-year-old girl

Authorities say a District of Columbia man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a shooting that injured a 7-year-old girl when she was coming home from a pizza dinner.

U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillip's office says 27-year-old Michael Wiggins pleaded guilty Friday to one count of aggravated assault while armed and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Prosecutors say Wiggins fired four shots at his cousin's car last April and shattered the back windshield.

They say one of the shots hit the chest of a 7-year-old girl who was returning home with her family after visiting Chuck E. Cheese.

The plea agreement calls for Wiggins to serve seven years in prison. He's scheduled to be sentenced in September.
