A man charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Memphis police officer is also facing federal charges.
Police say 30-year-old Tremaine Wilbourn shot Officer Sean Bolton several times in August while Bolton was attempting to detain him.
On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Edward Stanton III said Wilbourn is now charged with armed carjacking and felony possession of ammunition.
According to the indictment, Wilbourn used a firearm in a carjacking on the same day of the fatal shooting.
He now faces one count of carjacking; one count of possessing a firearm during and in relation to the carjacking; and one count of felony possession of ammunition.
Bolton, who was white, was the third Memphis officer to be fatally shot in slightly more than four years. Wilbourn is black.
