A manhunt continues Wednesday for the gunman involved in an early morning shooting at a Louisiana hospital. Law enforcement have now cleared the building and believe the suspect was able to flee on foot.

The shooting happened before 5:30 a.m. at the St. Mary Medical Center in Shreveport, in northwest Louisiana, near the Texas border.

Taniel Cole, 41, allegedly shot another man in the leg inside the building. The victim, who has not been named by authorities, sustained non life-threatening injuries, Shreveport Police Sgt. Angie Willhite told KSLA.

Law enforcement cleared the hospital around 11:45 a.m., and now believe Cole fled the building on foot, the station reported. He is considered armed and dangerous and residents in the surrounding Highland neighborhood have been advised to remain indoors.

Authorities were initially unsure if Cole remained hidden inside the hospital and handled the incident like an active shooter situation. Police were seen escorting medical professionals outside as officers searched the building for hours.
