A nonreligious advocacy group is asking a federal court to order the removal from public school property in western Pennsylvania of a six-foot-high stone monument that contains the Ten Commandments.
The Freedom from Religion Foundation filed a lawsuit in Pittsburgh on Friday over the display outside Valley High School in New Kensington.
The Madison, Wis.-based foundation says the marker serves to advance religion and the tenets of a particular faith.
It's seeking a declaration that the display is unconstitutional, an injunction ordering its removal, damages and legal fees.
Calls and email messages seeking comment from New Kensington-Arnold School District officials weren't immediately returned.
