Judge: No sentencing delay for doc in Ark. bombing

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A judge has refused to grant a sentencing delay for a doctor convicted of setting off a bomb that nearly killed the chief of the Arkansas Medical Board.

Randeep Mann is to be sentenced Monday along with his wife, Sangeeta Mann, who was convicted of obstruction of justice. U.S. District Judge Brian Miller issued an order Wednesday denying Randeep Mann's request for more time to prepare for the hearing.

Mann could be sentenced to life in prison, and prosecutors want him to pay $1.7 million in restitution.

Mann was convicted last year in the 2009 bombing of Dr. Trent Pierce outside his West Memphis home. Prosecutors say Mann blamed Pierce for the Medical Board suspending his license to prescribe narcotics after several of Mann's patients died from overdoses.
