Most people enjoy Valentine’s Day -- and choose to leave politics out of it.
While there are some who grumble it’s a holiday made up by card companies and florists, a new Fox News poll finds most people like Valentine’s Day.
By two-to-one more people say they like Valentine’s Day (64 percent) than don’t like it (31 percent).
And it’s not just women: more than six in 10 men (62 percent) and women (66 percent) like the day.
Democrats look to be more romantic than Republicans: 71 percent of Democrats say they like Valentine’s Day, compared to 61 percent of independents and 59 percent of Republicans.
Is it important to find a Valentine who shares your political views? Most say no, that’s not a priority (65 percent). For about a third of voters it is important to find a partner who has the same ideology (32 percent).
Women (37 percent) are more likely than men (27 percent) to think it’s important to consider political views in matters of love. And Republicans (41 percent) and Democrats (30 percent) are more likely than independents (19 percent) to think so.
The poll found more than twice as many voters say their Valentine’s Day celebration usually lives up to expectations (59 percent) as say it falls below expectations (23 percent).
Married people are more likely to enjoy Valentine’s Day. The number who like it is slightly higher among those who are married (68 percent) than among those who aren’t (59 percent). Likewise, married people (65 percent) are more likely than unmarried people (52 percent) to say their February 14 celebration usually lives up to expectations.
The Fox News poll is based on landline and cell phone interviews with 911 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide and was conducted under the joint direction of Anderson Robbins Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R) from Feb. 7 to Feb. 9. For the total sample, it has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
