Good Samaritan has car stolen while trying to help crash victim, police say

A Good Samaritan who was trying to help a car crash victim in Minnesota had the tables turned on him when the victim stole his vehicle, police say.

Authorities say the crash happened Saturday night on Martin Road outside of Duluth, and the victim's car flipped over, WCCO reports.

People who stopped at the crash scene to help witnessed 24-year-old Jacob Allan Mellinger get out of the car and run into the woods.

He returned a short time later and stole one of the Good Samaritan’s cars and fled the scene, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police were able to catch Mellinger and he was taken into custody at the St. Louis County Jail, WCCO reports. No charges have been announced yet.
